Competition is limited to Cumberland County youth who are enrolled in 4-H; or are FFA members who were enrolled in vocational agriculture on August 1 of the current calendar year and who have not reached the end of the calendar year of their 20th birthday; or youth who will be enrolled in the third grade as of August 1, and who are participants in an educational livestock project group. The exhibitors must be under the supervision of an Extension agent or a teacher of vocational agriculture.

Animals must be individually owned in the name of the exhibitor and be in the possession and care of the exhibitor by June 1 and shall remain in possession of the exhibitor until after the show’s completion.

1. Youth may enter and exhibit up to 2 steers / heifers, 3 lambs, 3 hogs, and / or 3 goats.

2. All animals must be pre-registered with the UT Extension with all entries being received 75 days prior to the show. All animals entered must be tagged and / or tattooed to be identified and must be verified by either an Extension Agent and / or Vocational Ag Teacher.

3. Entries are to be made on entry forms that can be obtained from the local Agricultural Extension Service Office.

4. All entries must be submitted through the local UT Extension Service office.

8. Entry fees of $10.00 per head for beef animals and $5.00 per head for goat /sheep / swine.

9. All youth entries must agree to the use of photographs, etc as publicity for promotion of the Jr. Livestock program and its sponsors.

1. All livestock must meet minimum show weight requirements to be exhibited. Show weights are as follows… steers and heifers 950 pounds, hogs 230 pounds, lambs 90 pounds, and goats 75 pounds. Animals not meeting these guidelines will not be permitted to show or sale.

2. Classes will be determined by weight.

3. All Champion and Reserve Champion animals will be required to remain on display through 6:00 p.m. the following night of the show.

4. Showmanship classes for each specie will precede the market animal show. Showmanship classes will be divided as follows… Senior (ages16-20), Junior High (ages 12-15), and Junior (ages 8-11). There will also be a special novice showmanship class for any exhibitor 7 years of age and younger.  These exhibitors will be provided an animal at the show.

All animals exhibited must sell. The purpose of this live auction is to provide an opportunity for young boys and girls to sale their market animals. This is a premium sale and should be viewed as a support auction for this youth program. Thus, the animal will remain in the ownership and possession of the exhibitor until a point in time at which the animal reaches a terminal endpoint show.  Such terminal end point show must fall within 90 days of the Cumberland County Fair Youth Market Livestock Show. Once the animal has been exhibited at its final show, the purchaser will gain ownership of the animal. The exhibitor will be responsible for delivery of the animal to the desired location of the purchaser.
